MoviefiedNYC’s New York Comic Con Wrap Up

“New York Comic Con (NYCC), one of the largest pop culture conventions in the world, descended on New York City this past October 8 -11.  If you spent any time at all at NYCC, you know there were lots and lots and LOTS of people crowding the Javits Center on the west side of Manhattan. ReedPop, the event producers, have confirmed that the official attendance at the show topped 167,000 people for the four day event. That is quite a bit more than last year’s attendance of 150,000.”

“The exhibit hall on the upper level of the Javits Center is home to nearly 1000 exhibitors selling everything a collector could dream of: toys, books, artwork, comics, games, videos, apparel and costume supplies, sold by companies hoping to cash in on fan enthusiasm. From the earliest moments of the show, the aisles of the main hall were clogged with attendees ogling the merchandise, talking with creators and publishers, and gawking at celebrities who occasionally make appearances at exhibitor booths.   On the lower levels, fans waited in long lines for celebrity autographs or queued up for panels and programs. This is where the real stars come out and where news is often made regarding fan-favorite films, TV shows and comics. The show’s centerpiece is the panels that can range from intimate discussions among fans and scholars to star-studded extravaganzas featuring the biggest names in the entertainment world.” –Rob Salkowitz Forbes

“San Diego Comic Con was all about blockbuster movies this year, the New York version largely focused on television. From Game of Thrones to Daredevil and Jessica Jones, our favorite super heroes are kicking just as much butt on TV as they are on the silver screen and certainly at New York Comic Con.” — from ABC News

nycc-logo-hi-res

New York Comic-Con is upon us and as usual, fandom is buzzing over what will be announced at the world’s biggest comic book, entertainment and pop culture celebration. Fans are anticipating many TV and film announcements, as well as what the future will hold for the world of comic books.   More comic book-related properties will arrive on TV and in movie theaters than ever in 2015. All these factors should make NYCC 2015 one to remember, and here are the events and announcements we’re most excited for.

Clueless 20th Anniversary Panel (Saturday, October 10th | 1:45-2:45 | 1A10)

Ever since I saw Clueless as a kid, I’ve wanted to be 5’10” like Cindy Crawford. To my eternal dismay, I fall two inches short. HOWEVER, I can achieve other Clueless-related dreams, such as attending this panel. I didn’t even know Clueless fell within the scope of NYCC, but as someone who watches that movie at least once a week, I am beyond thrills that these two passions of mine are meeting.

Disabled or Mislabeled?: Graphic Novels and Comics About Disabilities (Thursday, October 8th | 2:45-3:45 | 1A01)
Body Confidence and Positivity in Cosplay (Saturday, October 10th | 12:15-1:15 | 1A18)
A Force for Good: The Powerful Partnership Between Mental Health & Pop Culture (Sunday, October 11th | 3:45-4:45 | 1A24)

I wanted to highlight a few of the important amazing-looking panels representation and the community that makes up fan culture. Every single one of us is important and deserves recognition and care, and I’ll be attending these panels both seeking and offering support to and from fellow fans. I will also be looking to speak with fans after panels for their thoughts so we can feature them on MoviefiedNYC!

New-York-Comic-Con-2013-Panoramic-View-of-Floor

Hello to my fellow aficionados and fans- it’s Mariana here, your friendly neighborhood TV Specialist at MoviefiedNYC! New York Comic Con is coming up fast, and we want to take you along with us! In the weeks leading up to NYCC2015, we want to shine a spotlight on those of you who are going to NYCC and know what it’s like to be under- or misrepresented in fandom—but we want to know why you love it anyway! What makes NYCC your Comic Con destination, how does it make you feel included, and what are you excited for this year?

Every year there’s a plethora of new content coming for us all, and what better way to spread the word than to hear it from fans themselves? Record yourself in a 30-60 second video clip talking about what you love about NYCC and what you’re excited about this year for diversity, be it a new show or movie, or a panel or guest you can’t wait to see. Once that’s done, send it over to MOVIEFIEDNYC@GMAIL.COM with the title “MY NYCC SPOTLIGHT” and we’ll post it on our site! We can’t wait to hear from you!

Now, I will be at New York Comic Con myself interviewing fans (both on and off camera) and trying to capture the magic as it happens, and I would love to meet up with you there! In the coming weeks, I’ll be tweeting about the upcoming events, what I’m excited for, and of course- my cosplays. During the con itself I’ll also be livetweeting both on the MoviefiedNYC official twitter (@MoviefiedNYC) and my own (@Zarimav): where I am, what I’m covering, and hopefully who I’m talking to! Come get to the Moviefied crew, and we’ll see you soon!
