BEST PICTURE

All Quiet on the Western Front, Avatar: The Way of Water, The Banshees of Inisherin, Elvis, Everything Everywhere All at Once, The Fabelmans, Tár, Top Gun: Maverick, Triangle of Sadness, Women Talking.

John David West: Who will win: Everything Everywhere All at Once, it would be shocking if it doesn’t win. After all, it’s taken home DGA, PGA, SAG, and WGA. Who should win: Tár, however, I would be happy to see the anti-war epic All Quiet on the Western Front upset this category. I’m going out on a limb and say that Top Gun: Maverick could be the upset of the evening and win Best Picture!

Myrna Duarte: Who will win: Everything Everywhere All at Once this is a surprising time. This film a few years back would have only won Independent Spirit awards, happy to see it here. Who should win: What Hollywood does best, a big movie, with big stars and big entertainment Top Gun: Maverick.

John David: Who will win: This category seems wide open among Fraser, Butler, and Farrell. But Brendan Fraser for The Whale will take home the Oscar. He’s been giving big weepy, emotional speeches and that makes for compelling TV. Who should win: Colin Farrell, The Banshees of Inisherin.

Cate Blanchett, Tár, Ana de Armas, Blonde, Andrea Riseborough, To Leslie, Michelle Williams, The Fabelmans, Michelle Yeoh, Everything Everywhere All at Once

John David: Who will win: Michelle Yeoh – it’s her year. Who should win: Cate Blanchett for a career defining performance in Tár. Cate’s is hands down the best performance among all acting categories this year.

Myrna: Who will win: Michelle Yeoh, Everything Everywhere All at Once Who should win: Cate Blanchett, Tár

BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR

Brendan Gleeson, The Banshees of Inisherin, Brian Tyree Henry, Causeway, Judd Hirsch, The Fabelmans, Barry Keoghan, The Banshees of Inisherin, Ke Huy Quan, Everything Everywhere All at Once.

John David: Who will win: Ke Huy Quan, it’s a great comeback story and his performance deserves this Oscar. Who should win: Ke Huy Quan, but would love to see Barry Keoghan for his beautiful work in The Banshees of Inisherin. 

Myrna: Who will win: Ke Huy Quan, Everything Everywhere All at Once. Who should win: Pedro Pascal, Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent. Judd Hirsch is a great actor, but should not be on this list for his performance in The Fablemans.

BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS

Angela Bassett, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Hong Chau, The Whale, Kerry Condon, The Banshees of Inisherin, Jamie Lee Curtis, Everything Everywhere All at Once, Stephanie Hsu, Everything Everywhere All at Once.

John David: Who will win: Angela Bassett, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Who should win: Angela Bassett, Black Panther and Jamie Lee Curtis––I just can’t decide. I fear that they will cancel each other out and Kerry Condon could win.

Myrna: Who will win: Jamie Lee Curtis, Everything Everywhere All at Once. Who should win: Angela Bassett, Black Panther she took the franchise to another level with her performance.

John David: Who will win: Navalny, it has Oscar written all over it. Who should win: Nan Goldin’s All the Beauty and the Bloodshed, it’s beautiful, sadly relevant, and needs a sequel! 

Myrna: Who will win: Navalny Who should win: All the Beauty and the Bloodshed Nan Goldin is a charismatic narrator of her own story and leaves you wanting more.

John David: Who will win: Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio. Who should win: 2022 released a good crop of animated films, so this is tough, but I’m going with Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio.

Myrna: Who will win: Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio, beautiful and dark. Who should win: Pinocchio but Marcel the Shell With Shoes On is a very close second.

BEST ANIMATED SHORT FILM

The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse, The Flying Sailor, Ice Merchants, My Year of Dicks, An Ostrich Told Me the World Is Fake and I Think I Believe It.

John David: Who will win: the very sentimental The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse. Who should win: Ice Merchants.

Babylon, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Elvis, Everything Everywhere All at Once, Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris. 

John David: Who will win: Elvis. Who should win: Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, I mean, is there any doubt? Just take another look at Ruth Carter’s work in this Panther!

Myrna: Who will win: Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Ruth Carter is very deserving of the win. Who should win: Elvis, Catherine Martin’s work is dazzling.
