Media for Lunch: GODZILLA: THE JAPANESE ORIGINAL

Godzilla is back this year in a big way. First with a newly restored uncut version of Ishirō Honda’s 1954 classic, which features new subtitles by Bruce Goldstein and
Michie Yamakawa.  To commemorate the film’s 60th anniversary, the Japanese original will have a theatrical run in New York City at Film Forum and in other major cities from April 18-24.  Next, from the ’50s suitmation’s (man in a monster suit) Godzilla to the 2014, uber-CGI version, Legendary Pictures will release the latest Godzilla remake on May 16, starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Elizabeth Olsen, and Bryan Cranston. Don’t expect this version to feature a Godzilla with a heart of gold—as seen in my personal favorite Godzilla vs. Hedorah (aka Godzilla vs. The Smog Monster). He looks pissed off and ready to destroy—and that’s just the way we like him.
