As per the New York Times article “A Breakout Year for Black Films,” we are poise to have at least ten new black-driven films released in 2013. Including several potential award contenders with Fruitvale Station and Lee Daniels’ The Butler heading the pack. In honor of this week’s release of Lee Daniels̕ The Butler, we want to know what your favorite black film is. We have provided you with a list with several choices. Unfortunately, we couldn’t list all the many great black-driven films of the past century. From Oscar Micheaux (The Homesteader, 1919) to Steve McQueen (Shame, 12 Years a Slave 2013), the sky’s the limit, so, tell us your favorite and we’ll share the results with our readers.
