Movie-Still Monday: In honor of Ray Harryhausen – Jason and the Argonauts .

Jason and the Argonauts had a stunning variety of creatures–Talos, the man of bronze, the Harpies and the army of skeletons among them–populating the hero’s mythical quest all brought to life by the special effects giant Ray Harryhausen who passed away this past May 7th, at the age of 92. Some of the wonderous Harryhausen creations I was lucky enough to have grown up watching were Troglodyte from Sinbad and the Eye of the Tiger (1977), Kali from The Golden Voyage of Sinbad (1974), Cyclops from The 7th Voyage of Sinbad (1958), Mighty Joe Young from  Mighty Joe Young (1949) and It (giant octopus) from It Came from Beneath the Sea (1955) to name a few. Thank you, Ray Harryhausen, for entertaining and inspiring all of us.

Once, when asked if he had a favorite among his creatures,
Harryhausen replied: “It would be Medusa. But don’t tell the others.”
