'Ready or Not’ is a delicious, violent and dark comedy based on the well known game of Hide and Seek. Dripping in family dysfunction, this wicked tale isn’t a total triumph, but it’s a ferocious delight. The extremely charismatic actor Samara Weaving gives a “star-making performance,” as Grace, who’s about to marry Alex (Mark O’Brien), heir of the very rich and powerful Le Domas family. Just before the ceremony, he gives her the chance to ditch, an offer she no doubt later wishes she had accepted. The film's structure and it's overall commentary on how the rich view the world are not new, but we haven't really seen it done like this before. 'Ready or Not' is skillfully made, the film is immersive, you feel like you are in the mansion. In horror films you want the characters to be smart, to be almost ahead of the game. The Bride (Samara Weaving) is smart, reacting both realistically and dramatically in ways that the audience can connect. Heads up though, 'Ready or Not' is not for the squeamish, it is gory and yet a wonderful palette cleanser after the summer of sequels and franchises we've had. - @myrnaduarte #readyornot #moviereview #film #horrormovies
'Blinded By The Light' is Incredibility genuine, sweet, sincere and yes, a little corny. It tells a story about immigration, the culture clash it creates for very real family and life during Thatcher's England. Director Gurinder Chada delivers a film rich with affection for every character and respect for their points of view. Though a familiar story we have never seen it narrated by the sounds of The Boss. Capturing what it was like to discover a song at 16 and have it be your life. True fandom. 'Blinded by the Light' feels like a puppy, and to say anything bad about it feels like you are kicking a puppy and as we have learned from 'John Wick', you really don't want to do that. -- @myrnaduarte #movie #moviereview #theboss #blindedbythelight #immigration
