I am not impervious to the Beatles catalog or the power of their songs washing over you. A movie for Beatles super fans, ‘Yesterday’ is lost somewhere between rom-com, sci-fi movie or maybe an afternoon special, never quite sure at any given time which it really wants to be. Its premise is an interesting thought experiment, a world with no Beatles and few other things, but the film doesn’t even try to explain or provide us any rhyme or reason for it. A harmless film, with leads that lack chemistry between them, a film that I will probably watch again on Saturday afternoon because I know there will be some really good songs.
