Angry Birds
Stars: Peter Dinklage, Tituss Burgess, Jason Sudeikis
Directed By: Clay Kaytis, Fergal Reilly
Synopsis: Find out why the birds are so angry. When an island populated by happy, flightless birds is visited by mysterious green piggies, it’s up to three unlikely outcasts – Red, Chuck and Bomb – to figure out what the pigs are up to.
Our Two Cents: This doesn’t look like it’s worth seeing even if you have kids.
Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising
Stars: Chloë Grace Moretz, Zac Efron, Rose Byrne
Directed By: Nicholas Stoller
Synopsis: After a sorority moves in next door, which is even more debaucherous than the fraternity before it, Mac and Kelly have to ask for help from their former enemy, Teddy.
Our Two Cents: I hope the movie is actually as good as it seems or at least as good as the first.
The Nice Guys
Stars: Ryan Gosling, Matt Bomer, Kim Basinger
Directed By: Shane Black
Synopsis: A private eye investigates the apparent suicide of a fading porn star in 1970s Los Angeles and uncovers a conspiracy.
Our Two Cents: The trailer made in the 70s, with grainy footage and lots of cuts and clips of violent moments from the film, plus some cheesy voiceover. I’m so ready to just see it!
Maggie’s Plan (Limited)
Stars: Travis Fimmel, Ethan Hawke, Julianne Moore, Maya Rudolph, Greta Gerwig
Directed By: Rebecca Miller
Synopsis: Maggie’s plan to have a baby on her own is derailed when she falls in love with John, a married man, destroying his volatile marriage to the brilliant Georgette.
Our Two Cents: Greta Gerwig and Julianne Moore, they had me at hello.
Manhattan Night (Limited)
Stars: Yvonne Strahovski, Adrien Brody, Jennifer Beals
Directed By: Brian DeCubellis
Synopsis: When a seductive stranger asks tabloid writer Porter Wren to dig into the unsolved murder of her filmmaker husband, he is drawn into a very nasty case of sexual obsession and blackmail – one that threatens his job, his marriage, and his life.
Our Two Cents: Looks a little like straight to TV?
Unlocking the Cage (Limited)
Directed By: Chris Hegedus, D.A. Pennebaker
Synopsis: Between 2013 and 2015 a group of nonprofit attorneys seek nonhuman clients for whom they can advocate in two US territories, in order to establish legal person-hood for apes, elephants and cetaceans in the USA.
Our Two Cents: Intriguing and timely film that captures a key moment in history, somewhat like Blackfish and other recent animal activism docs.
