Back in 1996 when Leonardo DiCaprio was soft and young, Baz Luhrmann released his manic, music-video-style edited, ecstasy infused adaptation of Shakespeare’s tragic tale of doomed love. With its energetic and modern score, Romeo + Juliet featured a seventeen-year-old Claire Danes fresh from the TV show My So Called Life, and a Justin Beeber-ish DiCaprio. Teenage girls flocked to the theaters for repeated visits to swoon over DeCaprio. A year later those same teenage girls bought millions of tickets to once again see their “Romeo,” this time as Jack Dawson in Titanic.
