Movie-Still Monday: In Memory of James Gandolfini

James Gandolfini – In The Loop

On last Wednesday, June 19th, 2013, we lost James Gandolfini to a heart attack while on holiday in Rome. He was best known for his work on the HBO series The Sopranos. Gandolfini made mob boss Tony Soprano sexy, brilliant, powerful and an icon. During the show’s six year run, he also won three Screen Actors Guild awards and three Emmys for lead drama actor.
In a statement, Sopranos creator David Chase called James Gandolfini, “one of the greatest actors of this or any time,” whose “genius resided in those sad eyes. I remember telling him many times, ‘You don’t get it. You’re like Mozart” There would be silence at the other end of the phone…He wasn’t easy sometimes. But he was my partner; he was my brother in ways I can’t explain and never will be able to explain.”

His list of credits include dozens of films – True Romance, The Mexican, The Taking of Pelham 123, In the LoopKilling Them SoftlyThe Incredible Burt Wonderstone and Zero Dark Thirty, just to name a few. Gone too soon, -MD
