March 3rd – Jack the Giant Slayer won an underwhelming weekend at the box office with $28 million. The drunk-com, 21 and Over and the contradictory titled, The Last Exorcism 2 opened in 3rd and 4th place respectively, as Identity Thief landed in second to become the first 2013 movie to cross $100 million mark. February 28th – Erstwhile, Harry Potter’s Daniel Radcliffe is in final talks to play Igor in an updated version of the Mary Shelley classic Frankenstein. Not be out done, Emma Watson (née Hermione Granger) is being eyed for the title-role in Kenneth Branagh’s re-telling of Cinderella. Meanwhile, Bonnie Wright, the actress who played Ginny Weasley, is in talks with her local gynecologist’s office to star in an HPV-screening PSA. Sources: Deadline and Variety
February 27th – Chris Cooper has been cast as Norman Osbourne, aka the Green Goblin, in The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Cooper steps into the shoes of Willem Dafoe who starred in the 2007 version as the same character. Cooper will most likely keep the character more grounded than his predecessor to mirror the new series’ grittier tone. If he just cackles less and participates in fewer Evil Dead homages, he should be fine. Source: The Hollywood Reporter
February 25th – Sundance standout, The Way, Way Back, has secured a July 5th release date from distributor Fox Searchlight. The crowd-pleasing coming-of-age story is written and directed by Academy Award winning screenwriters Nat “Ben Fox” Faxon and Jim “Dean Pelton” Rash. Source: EW.com
February 25th – The United States Senate officially ended its investigation into the film Zero Dark Thirty one day after it lost all major awards at the 85th Annual Academy Awards. Cited the senate: “The 2013 Academy Awards seemed to solidify that absolutely no one cares anymore.” Source: Reuters
