Steven Spielberg’s historical drama Lincoln has been poised to walk away with the Best Picture at the February 24th Academy Awards ceremony since the nominations were announced back in January. But Ben Affleck’s thriller, Argo keeps gaining momentum with only seven nominations (sans the Best Director nod) versus Lincoln which came out of the gate with twelve nominations. Argo keeps pushing Lincoln aside, taking top honors at the Critics’ Choice Awards, Golden Globes, Producers Guild, Screen Actors Guild, Directors Guild and the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTAs). Now in a normal year that would indicate a Best Picture win at the Oscars.
All that being said, this could be anybody’s year with Lincoln and Argo canceling each other out. There are other fine films that have been nominated which also have a chance at the golden statue—Amour, Beast of the Southern Wild, Django Unchained, Les Misérables Life of Pi, Silver Linings Playbook, The Master (Sorry. My bad, it wasn’t nominated), and Zero Dark Thirty. What do you think? Will Hollywood royalty be taking home the gold? At MoviefiedNYC we want to know who you would send Oscar home with.
