Big Screen Poems: Sunrise

1927 Black & White
The Man, entrapped in nighttime
shadows, slips off to see The Woman
From the City.  Camera follows:
gliding over marsh, above
mud and uneven ground,
pushing through shrubbery.
In the fog they stop
for a secret lakeside embrace.
The Man’s wife, at home,
holds their baby.
The sky and the moon are imitations
and closer than they appear.
—John David West
