Podcast: A podcast, simply put, is no different from a webcast, a show that is broadcast over the Web and is broken up into parts or episodes. Most podcasts are similar to news radio programs and deliver information on a regular basis.
My personal addiction is to film podcasts. It seems I live with one playing on my headphones all the time. There are so many film podcasts out there I thought I would take a moment to share some of the ones I enjoy the most.
Slate Spoiler Specials — I love the idea behind the Slate Spoiler Specials. The spoiler-filled podcast is only meant to be heard after you see the movie. It includes all the spoilers, commentary, etc., that would never fit in a review, and the conversation is insightful and might inspire one to watch the film a second time.
/Filmcast — This one is a classic. If you’ve never listened to it, you should at least once. With lively discussion, an in-depth movie review, special guests, film news and plenty of solid, unique content, it’s the model that countless other movie podcasts have based themselves on.
The Tobolowsky Files — I love Stephen Tobolowsky, host of one of the best podcasts ever created in any category, not just film. The acting veteran is not a household name, but you’ve probably seen him on numerous TV shows and movies. Here, he tells stories from the entertainment industry and his life—and once you start listening, I dare you to stop.
Filmspotting — Filmspotting is undoubtedly one of the top podcasts available. When it comes to podcasting, these guys are absolute pros. Their show runs over an hour long, but it comes loaded with reviews, lists, contests, discoveries, and an abundance of features one won’t find anywhere else. They do an amazing job of engaging and interacting with listeners, while displaying a huge amount of love and knowledge for all things cinema-related which is, no doubt, the reason why, over the
years, Filmspotting has firmly established itself as one of the finest and most highly regarded movie podcasts available.
Now give a listen to any of these, I guarantee you will be hooked. You can find them all available on iTunes. Happy listening! -MD
