New Year’s Resolutions: The Makeover.

The new year is here and that can only mean one thing: New Year Resolutions. We all vow to stop ordering from Grubhub and start shopping at that organic farmers market. We will occupy the gym after work, and we will begin that juice cleanse any day now. For a little inspiration for these courageous resolutions we here at MoviefiedNYC present: The Top 5 Movie Makeovers.

1. Pretty Woman (1990)

“I have to go shopping now”
In 1990 Julia Roberts became Vivian Ward, the hooker with a heart of gold. With the help of her client/lover played by Richard Gere, Vivian transforms herself into the lady we always knew she was. It’s a classic makeover movie complete with shopping montages, hooker boots, and bitchy sales assistants.

2. Tootsie (1982)

“I have a name, it’s Dorothy. It’s not Tootsie or Toots or Sweetie or Honey or Doll.”

Tootsie tells the story of Michael Dorsey, a struggling actor who has been blacklisted by agencies across the board due to his difficult behavior. He soon comes across a role that he knows he could be perfect for, however, it just so happens to be for a woman. In true makeover movie form Michael Dorsey becomes Dorothy Michaels, a southern woman with no-nonsense sensibilities. In recent years Hoffman has discussed how the role changed his attitude towards women. Pretty inspiring.

3. She’s The Man (2006)

“Sometimes I think you just might as well be your brother”
Viola Hastings is a soccer player without a girl’s team. Her brother Sebastian Hastings is a musician who wants to ditch his new school. Their parents are separated and oblivious. It’s the perfect set up for a makeover movie! Sebastian leaves the country to play music and Viola takes his place so as to play on the boy’s soccer team and beat her ex-boyfriend at his own game. Lots of easy laughs and playful debacles.

4. Limitless (2011)

What kind of guy without a drug or alcohol problem looks this way? Only a writer.
Eddie Morra is a lazy, good for nothing, low life. He avoids his responsibilities, takes his girlfriend for granted, and hides from his landlord due to his lack of rent. One day he runs into an old acquaintance who gives him a drug that will change his life. Soon, Eddie Morra is a fast talking, super efficient, and extraordinarily intelligent business man. Of course, as we all know, getting fixed on drugs rarely ends well, but at least he got a nice makeover out of it!

5. Never Been Kissed (1999)

I’m not Josie Grossie anymore!
Josie Gellar is a kind, well meaning, grammar loving, push over. She is known as the pushover in her office until one day she is assigned an undercover story: Discover the true underbelly of the American high school. Josie goes through multiple physical makeovers as well as emotional. She befriends the geeks, the populars, goes to prom and rides the ferris wheel with her adorable teacher Mr. Coulson. This is quite possibly the perfect movie makeover rom-com.
